Greece at the Venice Biennale, 1964

In the field of sculpture Greece is presenting at the Biennale this year one the most eminent creative artists working within her national borders: George Zongolopoulos.

Having passed through various experiences, in his latest works, a careful selection of which are being exhibited at the Greek pavilion, Zongolopoulos has arrived at an abstract symbolism in which reference to the concrete disappears, or if it remains at all seems a distant allusion to the world of the senses. In the inner core of his work, he creates a dialogue whose underlying motif is interest in form and its ordering space.
