"AGORA", Eleven Sculptors in ancient Messina

The George Zongolopoulos Foundation participates in the group art exhibition "AGORA" with the emblematic sculpture of George Zongolopoulos "Poseidon".
The "Poseidon" sculpture is located in Washington D.C., at a distance of less than 1 km from the White House.

The exhibition "AGORA" is an artistic organic dialogue of eleven sculptors with the ancient Agora. The selection of the artists and the artworks to be exhibited, which in their entirety are metallic and of large scale, was made with special respect for the specific site and with criteria of quality and compatibility with the archeological site and concerns the new generation of sculptors in dialogue with representatives of the older generation as well as with the monumental environment of the ancient Messinian capital and the special site of Agora.

Apart from the contemporary works of art of modern Greek artists and the monumental ensemble of antiquity that encapsulates them, possibly revealing new aspects through them, it is also the visitors - spectators who are an integral part of the creation. After all, there is no creation without spectators and an audience that shares, understands, feels and is moved by. The spectators and the audience form their own interactive "AGORA" where it is fruitfully commented, discussed and reconstructed the set of messages transmitted by the contemporary artworks and their relation to the monuments.

The sculptors participate in the art installation "AGORA":
George Zongolopoulos, Andreas Arapakis, Markos Georgilakis, Angelika Korovesi, Spyros Lisgaras, Stelios Panagiotopoulos, Lida Pavli, Stefanos Souvatzoglou, Dimitris Fortsas, Antonis Halividis and George Chouliaras.
