“1821. Revolution Against All Servitude”

The War Museum, inaugurated in July 1975,

continues its mission to collect, preserve, and display military artifacts, while studying and promoting the history of the Greek nation’s struggles from antiquity to the present day—aiming to reinforce national memory and the historical continuity of Hellenism.

The Georgios Zongolopoulos Foundation participates in the exhibition with a rare early work by Giorgos Zongolopoulos, the Equestrian Statue of Georgios Karaiskakis. 

This is a rare sculpture from the collection of the Georgios Zongolopoulos Foundation, an early work of Giorgos Zongolopoulos, whose form survives today as a wax model and is preserved in the Foundation’s collection.

The work was first exhibited in 2021. It is Giorgos Zongolopoulos’ proposal with which he participated and was awarded in the 1939 competition for the equestrian statue of Georgios Karaiskakis, completed in 1963.
