It had been a long-standing desire to install a work by the internationally acclaimed artist in the city.<\/p>\n

The iconic sculpture \"Umbrella\" by George Zongolopoulos was installed in\u00a0Trikala<\/strong>\u00a0in 2022, following a collaboration between the Municipality of Trikala and the George Zongolopoulos Foundation, and was inaugurated on Friday, November 11, 2022.<\/p>\n

There had been a longstanding desire to install a work by the pioneering and internationally acclaimed Greek sculptor.\u00a0Georgios Zongolopoulos,<\/strong>\u00a0in the city of Trikala, as the modernism of the artist's work aligns with the philosophy of the Thessalian city, which stands as a model of innovation for all of Greece and Europe.<\/p>\n

\"\"The sculpture\u00a0\"Umbrella\"<\/strong>\u00a0It was created in 1990 and presented at the Venice Biennale in 1993. The umbrella, which has become the artist's most recognizable visual expression, is a familiar object across the world that is transformed into a sculptural symbol, sparking human imagination.<\/p>\n

The decision to publicly install the artwork at this scale for the first time falls within the Foundation's statutory purposes.
