CHINA MEETS GREECE

"The motives given by a sculpture could sound like music ..."
George Zongolopoulos, 1999

Seven distinguished Chinese and Greek artists,
two different musical cultures,
common feelings in a unique music meeting!

The "China Meets Greece" musical event is the top event of the 2017 Meet Greece Music Journey, a production by Post Scriptum in collaboration with the George Zongolopoulos Foundation and the Meet Culture organization, aiming at a deeper understanding and knowledge of the two cultures, Chinese and Greek, through art and music.
Two renowned Chinese musicians in collaboration with four distinguished Greek artists and a famous Spanish musician will present a high quality musical spectacle with influences from Greece and China.
The George Zongolopoulos Foundation, which promotes the cooperation with China on issues of culture and special tourism through special tours and visits to the Foundation and the Open-Air Glyptotheque of Psychiko, will frame the event by placing sculptures in the broadest concert venue with emphasis on a characteristic feature of the art of George Zongolopoulos, the "umbrella".
George Zongolopoulos, one of the most important Greek sculptors with a rich artistic activity that covers eight decades and is distinguished by the uninterrupted wish for renewal and evolution, used the umbrella as a symbol in his art and immediately became a beloved element in the work of the artist. He has reported characteristically: "The umbrella as a protective object is familiar all over the world. We all find protection and warmth under its light dome, rainstorms, wild sun, tender encounters... This ethereal dome touched many artists, Seurat's divine umbrellas, Goya's wilds umbrellas, Asian variations... We could consider them as an object common to its use and fantastic in art."

The concert is sponsored and supported by the MINISTRY OF CULTURE and ATHENS WINES (ATHENS WAVE ROUTES) and is a co-production of Post Scriptum and the George Zongolopoulos Foundation.
