At the Primary School of Kastro, in Sifnos island, takes place a group exhibition of prominent Greek artists entitled "The Beautiful Island". The exhibition is organized by the Cultural Association of Sifnos and is under the auspices of the Municipality of Sifnos. The exhibition is curated by Iris Kritikou.
The title of the exhibition, derived from the homonymous poem of Sifnian poet Ioannis Gryparis, is a source of inspiration and at the same time a direct reference point for the quiet and the great beauty of this beloved place.
The exhibition, which is at the same time an indirect tribute to Panayiotis Tetsis, for whom Sifnos was his second homeland, brings together precious small and bigger varieties, a variety of fragments of spirituality and splendor of beauty that, while they emerge from a different visual and conceptual approach and writing, make it an ideal primary narrative and symbolic alphabet of the place. "The Beautiful Island", Sifnos, is an open theme of design and proposals: an emotional place, a white landscape of objective beauty or subjective memory, timeless summer or a happy utopia, a field of light and self-awareness, a simple re-examination of the inner world, water and soil, rapprochement of a potential destination, beginning and ending of a trip...
The concern of both the organizers and the curator is the desire to memorize the place through its own raw material, as well as the creation of a good field of visual dialogue that bridges many different contemporary references and trends.
The exhibition includes artworks by:
Yiannis Adamakos, Diamantis Aidinis, Alexis Veroukas, Nana Vetta, George Zongolopoulos, Stella Meletopoulou, Panayiotis Tetsis, Rania Rangou, Giorgos Rorris, Maria Filopoulou, Giorgos Hadoudis
The works have been granted by private collections and by the participating artists.
An accompanying homonymous publication is planned as part of the exhibition.
