Inauguration of the "Four Seasons" sculpture at the Domaine Skouras

PRESS RELEASE

In an atmosphere of joy and optimism took place the inauguration of the emblematic sculpture of George Zongolopoulos the "Four Seasons" at the Domaine Skouras in Nemea last Friday, October 21, curated by the art historian Iris Kritikou and organized by the Domaine Skouras and the George Zongolopoulos Foundation.

The sculpture "Four Seasons", being a favorite artwork of the important private collection of the couple Ourania and George Skouras, was artistically reproduced under the supervision of the George Zongolopoulos Foundation in a larger scale in order to become a landmark for the Domaine Skouras in Peloponnese, where it was installed at the beginning of last summer. The reconstruction was undertaken by the artistic workshop of Messrs. Leonidas & Stelios Gikas, a workshop that has produced a multitude of sculptural works by George Zongolopoulos while the great creator was still alive.

As part of the first event and the inauguration of the installation of the sculpture, selected journalists and art lovers participated in the presentation of the artwork, in a particularly welcoming atmosphere on behalf of the owners of the Domaine Skouras and the Board of the George Zongolopoulos Foundation.

About the artist and the optimistic nature of the sculpture "Four Seasons" spoke the art historian and for many years a collaborator of the Foundation, Iris Kritikou, while the President of the Foundation and nephew of the sculptor Nicos Theodoridis, proceeded to recount stories about the inexhaustible imagination of George Zongolopoulos, his playful sense of humor and the sharp spirit that distinguished him.

At the age of 92, the sculptor created such a poetic work that it really sounds like Antonio Vivaldi's music collection of the same name, which the artist loved, while allegorically, as Iris Kritikou pointed out, the sculpture symbolizes the four ages of human life (child, teenager, adult, elderly).

The "Four Seasons" is the first sculpture in which in 1993 George Zongolopoulos used, for the first time, color on his perforated steel umbrellas, presenting it at the Venice Biennale the same year.

The second time that the umbrellas of George Zongolopoulos acquired color is in the 25 m high sculptural installation "Atrium" that exists in Syntagma Square in Athens.

For George Zongolopoulos it was important the art of sculpture to exist in the public space as he believed that art should live next to us, improving our everyday life and cultivating our aesthetic perception.
