A major exhibition of visual arts involving the works of 151 artists is performed at the Athens Municipal Art Gallery in Metaxourgeio from January 24 to March 12, 2017.
After the exhibitions "Visual arts and Resistance 1936-1949", the Chamber of Visual Arts of Greece proceeded in the period 1950-1974. This period was marked by significant events that defined life in postwar Greece.
Works presented in the exhibition are of:
1. Visual artists of this period (1950-1974) who have lived the events and have painted that time based on these events (political persecution, executions, prison, exile, refugee policy, etc.).
2. Visual artists of this period (1950-1974) who have lived the events, but for reasons of imprisonment, exile, etc., failed to have artwork within that period but later.
3. Visual artists of this period (1950-1974) who for some reason were not in Greece that period (living in political exile, banishment or exile), but have created work within this period.
The works presented were created in the period 1950-1977. Alongside the exhibition a 'History of Art laboratory" will be open, where a database with deposited elements of the artists in the period 1936-1974.
The George Zongolopoulos Foundation participates in the exhibition with the works: Mother Cyprus, Island and Dialogue.
