The George Zongolopoulos Foundation on April 20 hosted the workshop Revitalising Unfinished Athens, on the research for ways of exploiting the unfinished buildings of Athens and Piraeus.
Project leaders are Igea Troiani and Andrew Dawson, both Professors of the School of Architecture at the Oxford Brookes University.
The event was attended by the Mayor of Piraeus, representatives of the Municipality of Athens and the Municipality of Filothei - Psychiko, academics from Greece and abroad, urban planners, architects, social scientists and social workers.
The study of unfinished buildings began two years ago, while in 2016 an exhibition was presented at the Municipality of Filothei - Psychiko with photographs, drawings and models of 16 architects who worked in Greece for this purpose. Similar studies have been done about the unfinished buildings of Madrid and Cuba.
The utilization of unfinished buildings was the issue for which the Spanish Pavilion was awarded with the Golden Lion in Venice at the Biennale of Architecture in 2016.
