February 03, 2021

As part of the events commemorating the 200th anniversary of the Greek War of Independence (1821–2021), the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) reinstates in the Agora the horizontal cross-section (at a height of 40 cm) of the base of the sculpture "The Dance of Zalongo". The work was first installed in January 2019 at the SNFCC as part of the exhibitionGeorgios ZongolopoulosGeorgios Zongolopoulos: The Vision of Public Sculpture. At the same time Zalongo—a miniature version of the original work created by the artist himself in silver-plated brass—will once again be on display within the SNFCC premises.

This reinstallation marks the beginning of a series of events organized by the SNFCC to commemorate the 200-year anniversary of the Greek Revolution of 1821, centered around the core question: What defines a hero?
